Fluorinated Gases
Emission inventories and projections
Fluorinated gases that harm the ozone layer and contribute to the greenhouse effect are used in a multitude of applications:
- Cold production (refrigeration and air conditioning, transport refrigeration, automotive air conditioning);
- Insulating foams, fire extinguishers, circuit breakers, technical and medical aerosols, semi-conductor industry, chemical industry, acoustic double glazing …
ECONOTEC has developed the emissions inventory of fluorinated gases in Belgium and each of the three regions, and prepared projections of emissions by 2030, with the collaboration of VITO.
Sponsors: National Climate Commission, Federal Public Service Environment, Flemish Region, Walloon Region, Brussels-Capital Region, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.
For 15 years, ECONOTEC has enabled Belgium to meet its international reporting obligations regarding inventories and emission projections of fluorinated gases:
- Montreal Protocol (substances depleting the ozone layer);
- Kyoto Protocol (greenhouse gases HFCs, PFCs, SF6, NF3).
